On Saturday 15 November, Finlay Park welcomed familiar faces back through its gates for a special Open Day — an opportunity for past campers, leaders, families and friends to revisit the place many once called a second home.

For decades, Finlay Park has been a space filled with adventure, laughter and life-changing moments. Bonfires on crisp nights, late-night cabin pranks, plunge-pool swims, cups of iconic camp juice and friendships that stood the test of time — these memories have shaped generations of young people who spent summers and school camps on the shores of Lake Karapiro.

Now, as Finlay Park prepares for an exciting new chapter — Finlay Park 2.0 — the Open Day provided a moment to reflect, reconnect and look ahead. The historic dining hall, upstairs cabins and gym, each holding countless stories and legacy, are set to be replaced with modern facilities that will serve future generations while honouring the past.

Guests were invited to tour the grounds, view concept plans, share memories and contribute to the vision of Finlay Park’s redevelopment. Lunch was provided and families were welcomed, creating a warm community atmosphere that felt like coming home.

Visitors travelled from all over New Zealand for the event, with some even returning from the United States to be part of the day — a testament to the lifelong impact this place has had on so many.
